Carnival is a deeply rooted festivity in Catalonia, although its celebration varies by region and locality. Here's a general overview of how Carnival is celebrated in Catalonia:

Parades and troupes: One of the main features of Carnival in Catalonia is the parades of troupes and floats that go through the main streets of cities and towns. Participants often wear colorful and striking costumes, and music, dance, and festivities are essential parts of the parade. In Barcelona, for example, the main parade usually takes place in the Gràcia neighborhood.

Costume contests: In many places in Catalonia, costume contests are organized where participants can showcase their creativity and originality with their outfits. These contests often have different categories and prizes for the best costumes.

Dances and parties: During Carnival, numerous parties and dances are held throughout Catalonia, where music and fun are guaranteed. Venues are usually decorated with Carnival motifs, and people gather to enjoy music, dance, and the company of friends and family.

Burial of the Sardine: A typical tradition of Carnival in Catalonia is the "Burial of the Sardine," which marks the end of the celebrations. It's a symbolic procession where a cardboard or paper mâché sardine in a coffin is carried, accompanied by music and dances. This tradition represents the end of Carnival excesses and the beginning of Lent.

Regional celebrations: In addition to more general celebrations, many Catalan towns have their own traditions and customs related to Carnival. For example, in Vilanova i la Geltrú, the Carnival of Vilanova is celebrated, known for its "Gegants" (giants) and "Capgrossos" (big-heads), while Sitges hosts a lively and festive Carnival with parades, costume contests, and street and indoor dances.
